Old HiFi devices will require restoration. Even a still working device is unlikely to perform anywhere close to the original specification. Different devices groups require different treatment. We are specialised in Cassette Decks.
They are a bit more challenging than an amplifier or a turntable. Besides ageing eletctrical parts Cassette Decks also have a complex mechanical transport, driven by one or more motors and a variety of rubber parts that often give up first.
At times deteriorating belts literally decompose and transform into a tar like substance that is stuck on motor pulleys, flywheel or other moving and non moving parts.

Here good too see a capstan belt that has decomposed and is stuck on the flywheels of an ALPAGE AL-300. I
Important is here the use of appropriate cleaners to remove any belt residue. Another very common problem are capacitors that go far out of spec (luckiest case), make a short or start to leak acid over the circuit board (worst case).
This picture of an 220uf capacitor was taken from a Technics DBX cassette deck. It clearly started to leak acid. Luckily no damage to the circuit board in this case. Not always it is that obvious that a capacitors has failed as there are not always signs on the outside.
Replacement of all rubber parts and all capacitors is the best possible treatment to restore a cassette deck back to original specifications. After all mechanical and electrical restoration we are taking the deck through a full calibration. For that purpose we have different testing tapes recorded with extreme high accuracy and computer based measurement and calibration instruments.
We offer different level of restoration, suitable for every budget. For more information please have a read through our Badge System.
