The Sansui P-M7 is a linear tracking turntable with some functionality that most turntables can’t deliver. The linear tracking mechanism moves the arm “along a straight line” towards the center of the disc. It detects how the stylus is moving through the record and adjusts electronically the tone arm position. Conventional turntables will always have some distortion towars the last 3rd of a record. That is the big advantage of a linear tracking turntable. It doesnt matter if the inner or outer grooves being playes – it consistently performs the same.
That said it is a great sounding record player. The original cartridge and stylus are in great shape. The turntable is a direct drive mechanism – belts don’t have to be replaced to spin the platter. The speed is quartz locked, ensuring high accurate playback speed.
But it doesn’t stop here. The arm has an in built sensor and can detect gaps between the different tracks on the record. The P-M7 can be used like a CD player. You can directly jump to the title you want to listen to by pressing the track number. Or program the titles you like and the record player does the rest! Also repeating titles or the whole record is possible. The P-M7 is fully microprocessor controlled and a little technology marvel. It also detects the size of records automatically.
