This Technics SL-120 comes with a SHURE / SME 3009 Mk II tonearm and a SHURE EJ70 cartridge. All manuals are included for both – arm and the turntable. The original oil and the 45 rpm adapter made out of aluminium are included as well.
The SL-120 is an SL-1200 more aimed at the audiophile and was sold without arm. It has these unique “bulls eye” feature on the LID to provide space for all tonearm options. This one was equipped with the popular SME 3009 arm that has a very good reputation. The arm alone retails used for $AUD 1500. This is a deck with a very low wow and flutter that stands on feets with suspension. The platter is very heavy and direct drive – you will never need to buy a replacement belt. A nice and also necessary feature is the stroboscobe light to check / adjust the platter speed if necessary.
This unit has been completely serviced. The arm has been setup according to manual. Bearing have been lubricated and all switches/knobs been properly cleaned to ensure trouble free opertation. This unit, like all high end turntables, require proper handling of its user. It is fully manual and I would not recommend it for a vinyl beginner.
We provide 6 months warranty for this unit.
Description
The Technics SL-120 uses a direct drive motor, therefore the rotor, which is the rotating part of the motor, is connected directly to the turntable platter.
The spindle of the motor and the shaft of the turntable platter are the same.
The deck is fitted with a strobo indicator which is lit when the power/speed switch selector is turned on.
Pitch control is variable over a 10% range.
There is no mechanism on the SL120 to change the position of the belt or idler, therefore there is no wow or flutter or unwanted speed change.
Also, unlike previous players, there is no reduction or transmission mechanism and as the motor rotates at an ultra low speed, wear of parts is reduced to an absolute minimum.
