Recapping of HiFi Components

Often customers with vintage high end components are interested in having these devices back in a ‘factory new condition’. The way to go here is a full capacitor replacement. After the procedure the devices are ‘better than new’. Manufacturers often cut corners with capacitors and did not care much about quality. Also the capacitors most of the times used are only temperature stable up to 85C. Not ideal for a hot country like Australia.

We do only install quality capacitors that are 105C temperature stable and come with a low ESR (low inner resistance). The effects we have seen that such an extreme procedure like this had to old equipment was often nothing short of amazing.

Even top of the line CD players from the mid 90ties that seemed to be performing fine, significantly improved in their performance. Especially obvious in the higher frequencies with an effect we can only describe as ‘the fog has lifted’.

Other device classes like cassette decks, amplifiers or reel to reel decks benefit the same way. Dramatic increase in performance and of course reliability.

We do offer a full capacitor replacement for your devices as a service. The prices vary just based on complexity of a device. For cassette decks this is also included in our Gold Service. To provide a rough idea about costs below are some examples:

SONY TC-K555ESJ 3-Head Reference Cassette deck – $850
Pioneer SA-508 Amplifier – $380
Technics SL-1200 Turntable $350
